Nerja and Frigiliana are less than 15 minutes away from each. So I hit them both in the same day đNerja is on Mediterranean coast, about 50 Km east of Malaga. The Nerja caves and magnificent views are alone worth the trip. Nerja has an average of 300 days of sunshine. So your almost guaranteed wonderful weather any time of the year! Frigiliana is just as beautiful, resembling Santorini, with its white washed houses perched up on the hill. Frigiliana is said to be one of the most beautiful towns in Spain!
NERJA:
The Nerja Caves:
When I say you shouldnât miss out on these caves it is no joke! They are hugggggge. There are three different galleries you can check out. These caves were discovered in 1959 by five local pals. They were searching for bats at a pot hole known as âLa Minaâ. After seeing many of these creatures coming and leaving, the pals decided to explore further. They soon discovered skeletons and ceramic pottery further into the cavern. The caves have been open to visitors since 1960. These caves offers a look into history dating back millions of years. Before beginning your journey into the caves you will watch a short clip about the history of the caves. You will receive an audio guide that leaves you informed as you enter each hall. The tour will take you about 45 minutes. Adults: âŹ11.75 Children aged 6 years to 12 years: âŹ9.75 Children under 6 years: Free
Balcon De Europa:
Check out Balcon De Europa for some stunning views of the coast. As you look
out into the distance you can see Calhonda beach, Burriana beach, the town of
Marjo, and some views of the Nerja caves. Walk down the promenade-Paseo BalcĂłn
de Europe, enjoy an ice cream as you take in the surroundings. There are many
of the cafes and restaurants situated along the promenade for a front row view
as you chow down. Catch locals playing traditional music as you watch the waves
crash.
Ayoâs Paella:
Ayoâs Paella was recommended to me by a friend, and was not to disappoint. This
wood fired Paella is on Burriana Beach. Itâs open all year round and from morning
until the evening. The Paella is unforgettable and the prices are very
reasonable. Enjoy the scenery as you watch your Paella cook over the fire in an
enormous pan. The owner is even a local celebrity, who is one of the men who
discovered the Nerja caves đ
